PM holds discussions on enterprise and small businesses Sector: Central Government UK - Gordon Brown has held a roundtable discussion with entrepreneurs and small business owners to learn more about enterprise culture in Britain and canvass views on the development of the Government's renewed enterprise framework. Opening the discussions, the PM, highlighted the differences between Britain and America, where he said more people started up their own businesses, especially women. Mr Brown went on to say that enterprise culture in Britain was changing and that there were exciting times ahead. The PM added that despite the buffeting from problems affecting the US economy the UK had many positive attributes, including stability in the economy and a global reach that will make make Britain stronger in the years to come. There was a "dynamism and confidence" about the future, he said. The meeting took place in the Cabinet room at Number 10 this morning and included Karen Mattison, founding member of 'Women Like Us', Richard Reed, co-founder of Innocent Smoothies and Peter Jones, founder of Phones International Group and panellist on Dragons' Den since 2005. Talks focused on the broad enterprise framework and women in business in particular. The Government's new enterprise strategy is expected to be published in the Spring. |
