UK - A consultation has been launched on plans to revitalise a former
thriving industrial area around the borders of Enfield and Haringey.
Residents and businesses are being asked to give
their views on the Central Leeside Area Action Plan, which covers
a large section of Enfield along with a number of areas in Northumberland
Park, N17.
These include the Brantwood Road, Willoughby Lane, North East Tottenham
and Marsh Lane employment sites.
Both Enfield and Haringey councils hope the plan
will halt the general decline in industry and employment in the area
and lead to long term and sustainable regeneration.
The consultation, which is being led by Enfield Council,
covers a range of subjects, including the kind of businesses
that the two councils should seek to attract, how
best to improve transport links to the area, how many new homes should
be built in the area, and whether there will be a need for new schools
and health facilities.
Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Enterprise, Cllr Kaushika Amin,
said:
"We want to create a better future for residents
in the Central Leeside Area through new jobs, new homes and new facilities.
"We will now be working closely with Enfield Council to
make sure we get the balance right, but we also want to involve local people
as much as possible throughout this process.
"I'd now encourage both residents in the area and the wider Haringey community
to take a look at the report and give their views."
Two specific scenarios for North East Tottenham and Northumberland
Park are set out in the report.
The first is to retain the area for traditional employment and bring
under-utilised areas back into use, perhaps through "green" industries
or start-up businesses.
The second is to redevelop the land to combine offices with housing
and potentially leisure facilities.
The consultation on the Central Leeside Area Action Plan Issues and
Options report runs until 4 April 2008.

Further consultation will follow on more detailed elements of the
plan. |
